Proton Malaysia’s sales performance three months ago

As the entire auto industry grapples with a shortage of semiconductors, automakers are doing their best to meet market demand. The latest example is Proton, which is taking steps to solve its parts shortage problems, which has boosted production and ultimately sales.

The company sold a total of 14,787 units (domestic + export) in June 2022 with an impressive growth of 51% month-on-month. This brings the annual number to 60,124 units, nearly 4% more than the same period last year.

With these staggering numbers posted on Wapcar Automotive News, the automaker continues to take second place in the Malaysian auto market. It held an estimated market share of 22.6% in June, with a total market share for the year of 18.2%.

2022 Proton Exora: Proton also tops the C-segment MPV category with Exora. There are a total of 513 Exora registered as of June 2022.

2022 Proton X50: It is the greatest contributor that puts the crown of the best-selling SUV brand on Proton in Malaysia. That is, there is no such car model among others that could be compared with the X50. A total of 4,473 SUVs were delivered in the past month, achieving the highest monthly sales since its launch in October 2020. 

Proton X70: Another best-selling SUV from Proton is the X70, which dominates the C-segment SUV segment. It also achieved a 20-month best performance with 2,696 deliveries.

Proton Saga: Next, we have the brand’s best-selling model, the Saga. The automaker sold a total of 5,460 Sagas last month.

Proton Persona: The automaker sold 1,224 Persona sedans last month. Proton Iriz: In the last place of the brand is the Iriz sedan, with only 421 units delivered.

In terms of exports, the domestic automaker sold a total of 2,722 units in the first half of 2022, up 81.2% year-on-year. This makes it the country’s top export car brand. Pakistan continues to be the brand’s largest export market, followed by Brunei and Bangladesh.

June is a busy month for the auto industry, with most brands trying to produce as many vehicles as possible to meet market demand. The announcement of the removal of the excise tax incentive on July 1 also generated a spike in bookings, with customers flocking to take advantage of the savings in the offer.
